We only have certain types of Fire Extinguisher at the Shop.
Often termed the ‘multi-purpose’ extinguisher, as it can be used on classes A, B & C fires. Best for running liquid fires (Class B). Will efficiently extinguish Class C gas fires, BUT BEWARE, IT CAN BE DANGEROUS TO EXTINGUISH A GAS FIRE WITHOUT FIRST ISOLATING THE GAS SUPPLY.
When used indoors, powder can obscure vision or damage goods and machinery. It is also very messy.

Specialist extinguisher for class F fires, used on Frying Ranges involving cooking oils and fats, such as lard, olive oil, sunflower oil, maize oil and butter. It is extremely effective as the wet chemical rapidly knocks the flames out, cools the burning oil and chemically reacts to form a soap-like solution, sealing the surface and preventing re-ignition.

If someone gets burnt it is important to deal with it as soon as possible. Treatment will be dependant on the severity. Any burns should be cooled in cold water for at least 10 minutes. Severe burns may need hospital treatment. If someone is on fire then they should be laid down as quickly as possible and wrapped in a fire blanket and rolled to smother the fire. They will then need hospital treatment.
Fire extinguishers should be serviced annually and it is important they are stored in the correct places. There are signs and hooks on the wall showing where they should be.
